Inhaler technique assessment

Why is inhaler technique important?

  • Gives an instant and consistent appraisal of your patient’s technique

How to assess inhaler technique:

  • The Vitalograph Aerosol Inhalation Monitor (AIM) is a small desk top instrument, powered from a mains power DC PowerSafe. The AIM is designed to enable the instructor to assess and train a patient’s flow rates and ‘firing’ co-ordination when using an aerosol M.D.I.
  • After instructions have been given, the patient is asked to demonstrate his/her technique while the instructor observes their performance via the instrument. The criteria to which the patients performance is checked are not intended to define a perfect manoeuvre but represents a technique which is easy to achieve by most patients, and ensures acceptable delivery of the drug.
